LISS
Lithuanian International Student Services (LISS) is a program of the Lithuanian-American Community, which provides a unique opportunity for university students from the United States to intern in Lithuania for 6 weeks in various fieldwork and volunteer service oriented towards the students’ majors. It was developed for students who want to get acquainted with Lithuanian daily life and culture, do volunteer work there. They have an opportunity to study Lithuanian language, history and culture in Klaipeda University. In 2010, Birutė Bublys, former Director, signed an agreement with Vytautas Magnus University (VMU) to work together with LISS and provide educational and professional support, as well as grant all LISS university students 5 university credits for completing their internships.
Close to 200 Lithuanian and non-Lithuanian speaking students have participated in the program from its initial year of 2009. Included have been high school student groups to help with community service at orphanages, day care centers, elderly housing, and other organizations in-need.
LISS continues to fulfill its mission to aid university students of Lithuanian descent or have interest in Lithuania to work and refine their studies. LISS helps students enrich their lives, so that they can be an integral part of Lithuania’s future.
Kazickas Family Foundation has been supporting LISS since 2014.
In summer 2015 students upon arrival to Vilnius, visited the Royal Palace, met with the KFF President Jurate Kazickas and listened to a Sacred Hours Organ Music concert in Memory of Mrs. and Dr. Juozas Kazickas afterwards they met with maestro Leopoldas Digrys.
