Joseph and Alexandra's second-born son, Alexander Kestutis Kazickas, passed away while on a trip around the world in Kathmandu, Nepal in December, 1976. He was 22 years old. He had distinguished himself as a terrific athlete in swimming and in golf. One of his swimming records as a 12 year old stood for many years. He won several country club golf championships. To never forget him, the family decided to dedicate a memorial in Kathmandu. His name is carved in gold on a beautiful wooden altar in the Catholic Church of the Assumption. Scholarships have also been created in his name for dozens of Nepali children who attend the church school.
