On this special occassion, we thank President Valdas Adamkus for setting an example of integrity and hard work while making Lithuania a better place for many generations.
Dr. Joseph Kazickas, who spent years working with President Adamkus had the same vision to help Lithuania be free and prosperous again one day, shared his thoughts of his dear friend and ally in his autobiography "Odyssey of Hope":
"Over the years our relationship [with President V. Adamkus] has developed into a very meaningful and mutually respectful relationship. Such a relationship is possible only between people whose moral and ethical standards are very similar. To me he is a man of highest standards and also my friend with whom I can exchange ideas, opinions and suggestions without reservations. ... Although, during his [presidential] campaign, questions were raised whether an emigre could understand the depth of national emotion...- I soon became convinced that he was outstandingly capable of defending Lithuania's interest in the international arena... Furthermore, he displayed an elegant political style. As his first campaign progressed, Adamkus proved that he could gain the respect of the country and guide it into its integration with the wider world... He has excellent relationships with foreign leaders like George Bush, Jacques Chirac and Tony Blair as well as European royalty. In many instances the protocol rules were broken, and he has been treated like a leader from a country of much larger size and importance than our humble homeland." p.361 Odyssey of Hope, 2011
