On May 23rd Taurage community welcomed a series of events dedicated to the memory of dr. Joseph P. Kazickas, philanthropist, intellectual and patriot of Lithuania.
The events started with "Pottery Making" workshop for families, taught by Nomeda Marcenaite at the Birute Baltrusaityte Public Library and continued with a play based on Alexandra and Joseph Kazickas book Odyssey Of Hope, presented by the Pasvalys Cultural Center Youth Theater "Drama" and P. Vileisis High School Theater at the Taurage Cultural Center. The series of events culminated with the lecture "Joseph Kazickas and Lithuania's Freedom Case" by Vidmantas Valiusaitis that subsequently opened exhibition "Dr. Joseph P. Kazickas Life Story" at Taurage Region Museum "Santaka".
The “Pottery Making” workshop led by Lithuanian celebrity and activist Nomeda Marcenaite attracted over 20 families to the Birute Baltrusaityte Public Library. The workshop started by N. Marcenaite reading an excerpt from dr. Joseph P. Kazickas letter to his beloved wife Alexandra. After a moving introduction, the afternoon continued with talks and discussions about the values of continuous affection and support in the family while decorating porcelain cups.
Later, the community of Taurage was invited to the Taurage Cultural Center where a unique play by Pasvalys Cultural Center Youth Theater "Drama" and P. Vileisis High School Theater (director Asta Simonaite) was performed. The play, based on Alexandra and dr. Joseph P. Kazickas book Odyssey Of Hope attracted a full hall of young people and was eagerly applauded by the moved audience upon the end.
Afterwards, everyone was invited to the last event of the day – the opening of the exhibition "Dr. Joseph P. Kazickas Life Story" at the Taurage Regional Museum "Santaka". The event started with the lecture "Joseph Kazickas and Lithuania's Freedom Case" by Vidmantas Valiusaitis - Adolfas Damusis Democracy Center at the National M. Mazvydas Library in Vilnius director. After Vidmantas Valiusaitis covered the main life aspects of dr. Joseph P. Kazickas and discussed his contrubution to the prosperity and statehood of Lithuania, the guests were kindly invited to take the Odyssey Of Hope book as a present and enter the main exhibition hall.
The exhibit, composed of biographic elements of dr. Joseph P. Kazickas as well as a series of love letters to his wife Alexandra will be open at "Santaka" museum in Taurage until June 13th.
