Joseph P. Kazickas Exhibit in Siauliai
04/22/2019

On April 15th Siauliai region Povilas Visinskis Public Library hosted an evening in honor of dr. Joseph Peter Kazickas, philanthropist, intellectual, world traveler, writer, historian and patriot who cared for Lithuania, its Freedom and its People his entire life.

Dr. J. P. Kazickas' life story inspired Siauliai region Povilas Visinskis Public Library together with the Kazickas Family Foundation to remember this honorable man and to remind all about his dedication to Lithuania.

During the evening library's director Ekaterina Prakapene, Siauliai vice mayor Egidijus Elijosius, KFF New York ofice director Neila Baumiliene, KFF Vilnius office director Agne Vertelkaite and library's Book Graphics Center methodologist, artist Lolita Putramentiene-Braza welcomed the guests and thanked everyone.

Siauliai Saulius Sondeckis Art School accordion students Jonas Vozbutas and Orinta Lukauskaite (teacher Maryte Markeviciene) performed during the event.

Šiauliai library Book Graphics Center and the Kazickas Family Foundation invited Siauliai region school students to join the initiative and create exlibris based on "Odyssey of Hope". Students were urged to analyze the importance of never giving up, no matter what challenges life offers and never giving up hope while reaching for your goals. Dr. J. Kazickas led his life by such philosophy. As President Valdas Adamkus mentioned "He sincerely wanted Lithuania to emerge from the Soviet relicts of economic poverty and, even more importantly, from the soviet mentality. He wholeheartedly wished that people, especially young, should have confidence in the new Lithuania and new opportunities. Therefore, he generously sponsored higher education institutions, gave scholarships, supported cultural, scientific research and sport projects." For the last 20 years the Kazickas Family Foundation has been working on this mission, the Kazickas children and grandchildren continue the legacy of Joseph and Alexandra Kazickas today.

Siauliai region school student's exlibris exhibit was introduced to the public by prof. Vaidotas Janulis. KFF's N. Baumiliene and A. Vertelkaite presented all the participants with the letters of gratitude and small art supplies kits as tokens of appreciation.

The evening was crowned by historian Vidmantas Valiusaitis' presentation "Dr. Joseph Peter Kazickas Life Story" covering dr. J. Kazickas' contribution to Lithuania's resistance to occupation and all his work portraying his relentless wish to help Lithuania and its People, followed by the official opening of the „Dr. Joseph Peter Kazickas' Life Story“ and „Together For Life“ exhibits.

Siauliai Public Library is inviting all to learn more about the Kazickas Family Foundation, Joseph and Alexandra Kazickas, dr. Joseph Kazickas and his life, as well as to observe short video helping to understand better dr. J. Kazickas' philosophy of life.
