As the holiday season is fast approaching, let's pause and remember what season of giving means to us. While remembering Mamyte Alexandra Kazickas (1920-2011) and her eternal care for Lithuania's children, we are glad to share that during the December 13th meeting Kazickas Family Foundation decided to grant $94,364 to support 21 Lithuanian Heritage Schools in the US that submitted the applications.
Since 2012 Alexandra Kazickas Grant Program donated $555,610 to Lithuanian Heritage Schools in the US (not including $260,000 to Alexandra Kazickas Lithuanian School). Kazickas Family Foundation also supported testers' seminars in Boston and Vilnius, students' Lithuanian language proficiency tests and has been contributing to the Lithuanian Educational Council of the USA for many years. Looking back at the last five years of AKGP work and it's initiatives, we can gladly say that a big step was made improving the quality of education at the Lithuanian Heritage Schools. The number of Lithuanian schools in the US has doubled in the last decade, huge step has been made creating the programs, valuable teaching materials have been shared and communication between the schools established. Close productive relationship was formed with the Ministry of Education in Lithuania and the Vilnius University, schools' needs are being heard and addressed today and the need for proficiency level testing is seen and valued. It's exciting that Lithuanian education in the US, as well as in many countries across the globe is valued as important investment in Lithuania's future and its biggest national treasure - children.
Together with the grant checks and first snow in New York, KFF sends everyone at the Lithuanian Heritage schools their gratitude, encouragement and support.
