"Youth Can" event for Lithuanian, Afghan and Ukrainian youth
05/12/2022

The Kazickas Family Foundation, together with the Lithuanian Red Cross and the Lithuanian Football Federation organized the event "We are the Youth of the World". Lithuanian youth welcomed Ukrainian, Afghan, Sirian, and Venezuelan youth. A soccer match was organized to establish connections between youth, getting to know each other and different cultures.

Focus on youth education

For many years, the Kazickas Family Foundation has focused on education, social initiatives, and youth development. "Youth Can" the KFF’s life skills through sports program has been running for seven years and is based on personalized attention and support to children and youth. Therefore, the "We are the Youth of the World" event was attended by young people from Lithuania, Ukraine, Afghanistan, as well as Venezuela, and Syria. The children played a soccer game, coordinated by coaches from the Lithuanian Football Federation. The event also included various other activities. Youth spend time together making new friends, eating pizzas, and sharing their impressions of the event.

Support for war refugees

The Foundation has continuously aimed to help vulnerable people, including providing support and a safe place for people who have come to Lithuania to escape war and repression. Kazickas family’s history – being forced to leave Lithuania in July 1944 as the Soviet army advanced to occupy the country - always reminds us of the suffering endured by those at risk of losing the stability of their lives and their loved ones in their homeland. The KFF Vilnius office director Agne Vertelkaite shared: "We feel the importance of organizing this initiative to create an environment for young people of different nationalities to meet, make friends, and show hospitality to people who came to Lithuania. During the event, the Youth Can children, together with young people from Afghanistan, Syria, Venezuela, and Ukraine, not only had an active time together but also had the opportunity to get to know different cultures, make friends, and help the newcomers to integrate into our society."

This event could not be possible without our partners - the Lithuanian Football Federation, the Lithuanian Red Cross, Miroslavo Gymnasium, and Išlaužas Primary School - who all contributed to the success of the event.
